It is now a tradition in France to take the street every June 21st to celebrate the first day of the summer by playing or listening to all kind of music.

La fête de la musique is completely different from a music festival, as it is above all a free popular celebration, where anybody, professional or amateur, can perform anywhere in open air areas such as streets, parks, museums or train stations. In Paris, literally hundreds of musicians gather in every corner of the city, giving free performances of everything from jazz and rock to hip-hop and clasical music.

Launched in 1982 by the then French Ministry for culture, Jack Lang, la Fête de la musique which is now held in more than hundred countries all over the world, has definitively become one of the year’s most popular events in the city of light.
