Fiac, the most iconic Parisian art fair
Already in its 38th year, the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain (FIAC) is today an international meeting point for gallery owners, collectors, specialists and amateurs of modern art, contemporary art and design, as well as a ideal forum to discover what is actually being created and sold at this point in time.
It takes place in the fall every year in the Grand Palais. Many international galleries (mostly from Europe but also some from Japan and the USA)–about 170 selected galleries and almost 3,000 artists are expected for the 2011 edition– are represented and put their best and most expensive artworks on display.
The maiden edition of FIAC, then called Salon international d’art contemporain, was held in 1974 in the disused Bastille railway station. The event changed its name to FIAC when it made its new home at the Grand Palais in 1977. A few years later, the fair opened its doors to photography.
This year, thanks to a special partnership between the Louvre museum and the FIAC, outdoor sculptures are currently on show in the Tuileries gardens. Other artworks can be admired in the Jardin des Plantes in the 5th arrondissement.

These look just…perfect. I’ve awalys been a bit nervous to try making proper macarons…I figure like haircuts and half-marathons they’re best done by other people But this is inspiring stuff, might have to give them a go. Love the sound of the salted butter in the caramel…Lucky you getting to Paris! Went once a few years back, loved it.
